The story of
Château des Aulnes

Our History

Château des Aulnes: Authentic and historic reception venue in Lorraine, France, between Metz, Nancy and Verdun.

The château was built in 1860 by Aurore André, Marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre, from a family whose origins date back to the Middle Ages in the Dauphiné region. Indeed, the Clermont-Tonnerre family is one of the oldest in France. Originally from a charming village overlooking Lake Paladru, the ruins of a feudal castle built by the early Clermonts still stand there today.

Free, sovereign, and wielding considerable power until 1340, the Dauphiné was united with the Kingdom of France. In exchange for their lost freedom, they received numerous lands and honorary titles, marking a turning point. Strengthened by this new power granted by the French crown...

Over generations, the Clermont-Tonnerre family expanded their influence and distinguished themselves through their commitment to the French court, where they held positions of great responsibility. Whether in battles, leading royal armies, or in political decision-making, they established themselves as key players in the kingdom's history. Moreover, their loyalty to the monarchy and their strategic vision allowed the family to endure through the ages while maintaining its prestige.

It was in this context that Aurore André Marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre had the Château des Aulnes built in Lorraine as his residence

in Bouconville-sur-Madt.

Embodying all the refinement of the era, the château reflects the historical legacy of this great family. For the most discerning connoisseurs (or the curious), you can still see today the attention to architectural details that testify to the care lavished on this work.

Even today, this architectural gem continues to fascinate with its history and the beauty of its surroundings. While it embodies the prestige of this noble family, the new owners have nonetheless managed to reflect the values of conviviality, authenticity, and simplicity, making it a true haven of peace. One thing is certain: you and your guests will be charmed by this estate located in Lorraine, France, between Metz, Nancy, and Verdun.
